The Jersey Shore Dream Center, a non-profit organization that alleviates poverty, hunger, and addiction in Monmouth County, is proud to announce that Whole Foods Market Monmouth County has selected it as the recipient of a 5% Community Giving Day on Thursday, August 18. Otherwise known as a “5% Day,” this fundraising event will take place at three locations: Whole Foods Market Marlboro, Whole Foods Market Middletown, and Whole Foods Market Spring Lake Wall.

On 5% Days, Whole Foods Market donates five percent of a single day’s net sales to a local non-profit organization. “The Jersey Shore Dream Center is thrilled and honored that Whole Foods Market has selected us for a 5% Day at its three stores in Monmouth County,” states Isaac Friedel, executive director of the Jersey Shore Dream Center. “Whole Foods Market began supporting the Jersey Shore Dream Center as a RunAPalooza sponsor this past April. The continued support for our charitable mission is tremendously helpful, as we’re experiencing surging demand for our Mobile Food Truck.”

Founded in Asbury Park in 2012, the Jersey Shore Dream Center “finds a need and fills it” among low-income children, families, and senior citizens. The Jersey Shore Dream Center serves more than 45,000 individuals a year in Asbury Park, Belmar, Eatontown, Neptune, Ocean Grove, and other Monmouth County communities.

With thousands of food-insecure residents living in Monmouth County, the fastest-growing program at the Jersey Shore Dream Center is its Mobile Food Truck. This program will be the direct beneficiary of the Whole Foods Market 5% Day on August 18.

“Whole Foods Market supports local non-profit organizations, practices environmental stewardship, and promotes healthy eating among area families,” according to Laura Fette, Marketing Project Manager for Whole Foods Market Marlboro and Spring Lake Wall. “We believe the Jersey Shore Dream Center and its Mobile Food Truck are closely aligned with Whole Foods Market’s commitment to the community and healthy living. Whole Foods Market Monmouth County is proud to partner with the Jersey Shore Dream Center in order to address hunger in local area.”

On a weekly basis, Whole Foods Market Monmouth County donates prepared foods to the Jersey Shore Dream Center. In turn, the Jersey Shore Dream Center distributes the items through its Mobile Food Truck.

“We’re so thankful for the prepared foods that Whole Foods Market donates to the Jersey Shore Dream Center on Thursdays and Fridays,” Friedel explains, “because they help us provide meals to Monmouth County residents who live without a stove, refrigerator, or microwave. The prepared foods from Whole Foods Market are a tremendous resource for us to be able to share with local families in need.”

The mission of the Jersey Shore Dream Center is to provide sustainability through the restoration of men, women, children, seniors, and veterans who are overcome by life-controlling issues such as chronic homelessness, addiction, poverty, abuse, and hunger. Programs include Adopt-a-Block, Baby Supply Pantry, Claudia’s Gourmet Soup Kitchen, Family Restoration Home, Foundation Youth Group, Mobile Food Truck, and Women’s Discipleship Home.

This Labor Day weekend (September 3-4), the Jersey Shore Dream Center will coordinate a major volunteer event called Serve24. Over the course of 24 hours, volunteers will conduct multiple community service projects in Asbury Park. Outreach will include “Gas Buy-Down,” “Midnight Laundry Love,” and a town-wide street cleanup in addition to the Jersey Shore Dream Center’s Adopt-a-Block and Mobile Food Truck programs.
