We have been able to raise the full $5,000 from Memorial Day to Labor Day, just in time for our donor to match these funds! For every dollar that was donated, it was matched by our donor! The Summertime Challenge was a success with funds totaling $10,000!! These funds will be used towards our “Beauty for Ashes” Discipleship home.
Thank you to all those who donated towards the “Summertime Challenge.”
Together, we will make a difference.
Dear Friends & Family,
As SUMMERTIME approaches, thoughts of the Jersey Shore bring joy and excitement to beach lovers everywhere. You can’t wait to smell the fresh sea air as you come down the parkway. You think with anticipation about the Lobster Festival in Bradley Beach, the Seafood Festival in Point Pleasant, ice cream at Strollo’s, and the numerous craft fairs in Ocean Grove. The Jersey Shore is filled with vacationer’s sun bathing, swimming, building sandcastles, throwing footballs, and strolling along the boardwalk. Their only disturbance is the tantalizing smell of vinegar fries and funnel cake that fills the air. There’s nothing like a summer at the Jersey Shore.
Tragically; there is another side to the Jersey Shore that is not anticipated; a darker side which most vacationers are happily unaware.
Did you know that the Monmouth County prosecutor’s office said, “heroin usage has become an “epidemic” in Monmouth County?” From 2010 to 2013, New Jersey saw some 4,300 drug related deaths. In Monmouth and Ocean Counties in 2013, there were approximately 182 deaths due to heroin overdose. These deaths were of young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. It is said, that in Monmouth County, heroin is easier to buy than alcohol and marijuana. As per Monmouth County Prosecutor, Christopher Gramiccioni, ”It’s driving kids into committing crime, driving women and children into prostitution, driving them into becoming robbers, burglars, car thieves, whatever you can do in order to get money in hand to pay for your fix. It’s terrible!”
Everyone knows somebody who’s been affected by drugs. We all look in horror at the news of yet another life claimed by drugs and we all say to ourselves, ‘Someone needs to do something!’ The Jersey Shore Dream Center is full of people who are ready to stand up and make a difference.
The Dream Center was incorporated March, 2012 and our mission is to give hope to the hopeless, food to the hungry, clothes to the needy, and freedom to those bound by addiction. In the last two years we have helped over 30,000 men, women and children each year through our 10 current programs. We find a need and fill it, find a hurt and heal it. But our real passion is to open a 24 hour, year-long discipleship home for those trapped in addictions that have nowhere else to go. Here at the Jersey Shore there are limited resources for those bound by addiction.
We are on the brink of purchasing our FIRST discipleship home. But we need YOUR help. We have a donor who is willing to match up to $5,000 if we can raise that or more by Labor Day. This donor will match dollar for dollar up to $5,000! That means your $1 equals $2, your $50 equals $100, your $1000 equals $2,000! We are calling this our “SUMMERTIME CHALLENGE!” With your help, we can make a difference in our community! This “epidemic” as per the Prosecutors office, is only going to get worse unless someone stands up to make a difference. Won’t you STAND in the gap with us to be the change that is needed?
Please fill out the attached envelope and send in your matching funds today! You can also go online at www.jerseyshoredreamcenter.org/summertime-challenge and click the donate button. We only have until Labor Day to raise $5,000! If you would like to know how we are doing, don’t hesitate to check out our website at www.jerseyshoredreamcenter.org where we will be tracking our donations.
Thank you in advance for helping us fight the war on drugs in our community.
